Low Level Waste Repository (2007)
We have been involved in several LLWR option assessments and end state studies as specialist subcontractors. We were then commissioned directly to support the development of a 'toolkit' of management options and deliver a series of stakeholder workshops.

Dounreay Stakeholder Group Support (2007)
We supported the Dounreay Stakeholder Group in its 2007 performance review. Faulkland Associates was commissioned to carry out a strategic assessment of the way thjavascript:noop()e Group's role might develop in the short to medium term, including a programme of interviews with key stakeholders.

Health and Safety Executive (2007)
Faulkland Associates the HSE/Environment Agency team during the development of its nuclear 'new build' stakeholder engagement programme.

We have been advising the HSE Nuclear Safety Department on the safety management issues associated with site license company competition arrangements.

UK Nuclear Licensee Local Community Liaison Councils(2006)
Faulkland Associates were commissioned to carry out a review of existing site stakeholder group arrangements and suggest options for enhancing their role.

Railway Safety & Standards Board (2006)
The Railway Safety & Standards Board (RSSB) was researching the impact of noise from train horns on the local community. Faulkland Associates was responsible for the interview- and questionnaire- based research at four sites and contributed to the cost/benefit modelling.

London Fire Brigade (2006)
The London Fire & Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA) runs the London Fire Brigade. It commissioned a three-month participative evaluation of its stakeholder processes from Faulkland Associates as part of a review of its corporate arrangements and database provisions.

Dounreay Stakeholder Group Support (2006)
The DSG has been reformed in line with Nuclear Decommissioning Authority guidance. David Collier was invited to facilitate a workshop to help it clarify its priorities and map out a programme of work.

Evaluation support for the NDA (2005, 2006)
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) is continuing to develop its stakeholder engagement framework. David Collier helped develop the original framework for the Local/Site Stakeholder Groups. The NDA commissioned Faulkland Associates to support it in evaluating its first and second National Stakeholder Group events and developing a long term evaluation framework.

Evaluation of two client web sites (2005)
Two of our clients asked for support in the evaluation of their web sites. We prepared initial evaluations and ran a workshop for their webmasters to develop their in-house evaluation and website ergonomics capability.

Evaluation of the CoRWM's programme (2004-06)
The Committee on Radioactive Waste Management is reviewing options for managing solid radioactive waste in the UK. Following on from our well-received evaluation of the deliberative mapping pilot, we won the contract to evaluate all aspects of CoRWM's work during the remainder of its three-year programme, including its internal processes, its management of technical and stakeholder activities and its decision making methodology. This is a very high-profile job supporting a project that has polarised opinion as to how it should be carried out.

Evaluation of a national stakeholder engagement trial (2004)
The Committee on Radioactive Waste Management is reviewing options for managing solid radioactive waste in the UK. As part of this process, CoRWM had to develop and manage an extensive public and stakeholder engagement programme. During 2004, it trialed a new approach to involving both public and experts in option selection called ‘deliberative mapping’. We were asked to evaluate the pilot and advise the committee as to its suitability.

Evaluating a new decision making methodology (2004)
We evaluated a decision-making methodology for BNFL / British Nuclear Group as part of its review of a code of practice. The COP provides a framework for integrating a range of analyses and supports the decision maker in forming a final judgment. Our evaluation provided the basis for revision.

Nuclear utility web site subscription research project (2004)
This project made use of our existing index of web sites for decommissioning plant as the basis for an analysis, evaluation and comparison of the stakeholder / community pages on 25 of the best examples worldwide in terms of their content, usability and design.

Evaluation of site BPEO stakeholder programme and web site (2004)
UKAEA commissioned us to conduct an independent evaluation of the stakeholder programme associated with the BPEOs linked to the Dounreay decommissioning programme, including the consultation documents, and to summarise ‘lessons learned’. The summary report has been used as a basis for discussions with a wide range of stakeholders and has been published on the UKAEA web site.

Decision training for Procter & Gamble/Paul Jackson Associates (2003)
Procter & Gamble was developing its management training portfolio. Faulkland Associates supported its in-house team and Accelerated Learning specialist Paul Z Jackson on the integration of decision theory into a new course.

As Specialist Subcontractors

Sellafield low level waste option assessment (2007-08)
David Collier is providing specialist process design, facilitation and stakeholder management consultancy as part of a Quintessa team commissioned by Sellafield Sites to run a series of internal and external workshops on a range of low level waste streams.

“Safegrounds” stakeholder engagement guidelines (2004-08)
David Collier was part of the consultancy/industry/MOD team preparing the 2003 Safegrounds guidelines on the management of contaminated land. He drafted the specialist guidance on stakeholder engagement for the MOD and nuclear licensees and revised it again in 2004. In 2007, he prepared the new 'Citizen's Guide' (all under subcontract to Enviros).

NDA site 'end state' BPEOs (2005-07)
Faulkland Associates provided specialist input to the design and delivery of several Nuclear Decommissioning Authority site 'end state' BPEO studies and stakeholder engagement programmes, including Dounreay, Chapelcross and the Low Level Waste Repository near Drigg(all with Quintessa) and Sizewell 'A' (with Dialogue by Design).

Harwell Integrated Waste Strategy (2006-07)
The UKAEA commissioned Nuclear Technologies plc. to carry out a BPEO study in support of the IWS. Faulkland Associates providing specialist input to the design and delivery of the stakeholder engagement strategy and supported UKAEA in its work with the Site Stakeholder Group.

Evaluation of SEA stakeholder programme in Russia (2004-05)
NNC was contracted to carry out a strategic environmental assessment as part of the donor-funded programme to decommission Russia nuclear submarines and surface vessels. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development asked for an independent evaluation from Faulkland Associates as part of the project to ensure that the associated consultation programme met international best practice and EBRD rules.

Discharge authorisation consultation (2004-06)
Nuclear Technologies plc carried out a series of BPEO studies for a major UK nuclear sector client in support of applications for discharge authorisations. Faulkland Associates advised them on best practice and reviewed proposed consultation arrangements. David Collier facilitated the stakeholder workshops and prepared the reports.

Evaluating stakeholder response to FSA options for improved risk data (2003-2004)
Faulkland Associates facilitated the focus groups which formed part of the joint NRPB/Greenstreet Berman evaluation of stakeholder views on options suggested by the Food Standards Agency for improving the information provided on prospective radioactive dose.

Evaluation of the HSE's National Account Manager pilot-study (2003)
The Health & Safety Executive piloted a programme to develop contacts between senior staff and senior management in Top350 companies. Faulkland Associates provided specialist input and interviewed stakeholders as part of Greenstreet Berman's evaluation of the project.

Evaluating regulatory initiatives and options for improving flood warning awareness (2003-2004)
Faulkland Associates contributed specialist expertise as part of the Greenstreet Berman team undertaking this Environment Agency project, intended to evaluate existing initiatives and look for other options for improving flood warning awareness in low probability and medium-high consequence flood zones.

Stakeholder management training, Warwick Manufacturing Group (2003-05)
Warwick University Manufacturing Group delivers a multi-module management development programme for a group of international companies. David Collier was the original Compliance module tutor. Stakeholder issues are a major part of this module and he continues to deliver these specialist sessions.
